AshleyI’m Ashley, aka MischiefMyDear from LJ. Found your journal through my best mate.
).
I’m working on my M.A. in Arts Administration at Indiana University, in Bloomington. Shopping here is weak, at best.
From a young age, I’ve always loved fashion & how it expresses different aspects of oneself; I can often be found spending my spare time doing make-up, hair, costumes, and taking pictures, just to see what the outfit makes of me. Living in Bloomington has been difficult, because the academic sect here often seems to approach those who are interested in fashion & “shopping” as shallow, rather than seeing the artistic & intellectual side behind it.
Colors affect my life very much, and while I was always aware of them, your blog has definitely inspired me to be more bold in how I mix and match them (which, according to some, might be hard to imagine

katehey, im kate from northern ireland, i’ve been reading your blog for about 9 months, maybe more. i adore wardrobe remix and maybe will post some day – i particularly like seeing posts from the uk, and i’m absolutely loving all the men in it now. i really admire your style, you are absolutely stunning in every way and your house is gorgeous. i miss your wardrobe remix favourites of the week! xx kate.

hannahi believe i might have commented once before but i guess this is the one that counts.
my name is hannah garr and i spin yarn, knit, sew, and cut hair (during the day). i live in a tiny town in new hampshire with my boyfriend, who has a mountain-man beard, and our two boys, rufus and buster, the chihuahua and jack russel, respectively.
i found you somehow, probably linked from another journal somehow, and am just in awe of you color combinations and fashion sense. i have a hard time with colors, wardrobe wise, but i love looking at your outifts and thinking, hmmmm orange and grey? wonderful!
cheers,
hannah.

ChloeMy whole response just got eaten. I’m clovecigarettes on LJ. I’m crabby and lazy and I do lots of crafts (crochet, tatting, and I’m taking up macramé now that my gran has sent me some kitschy old macramé books). Also, I live in Scotland. I found out about your blog from banshee.
I like that you make a point to mention that no colours clash. I remember being horrified in college when a girl told me not to wear blue and black or black and brown.
January 12 2007 at 9:37 pm
Kyliehello. i’m kylie. I read your blog because your colors always make me smile. I teach sewing to wonderful, adorable children for a living and I live in the castro. I was excited to learn that you were moving over to our fair city, as we could always use more orange and green and acid wash denim, as well as talented artists and crafters and designers. welcome, and keep enlightening the world with ideas such as the non-existence of clashing colors and the wonders of needlepoint!

katiei think i’ve commented before, can’t remember though. I’m Katie, a graphic designer, aspiring artist, live in Illinois.
I love your unique perspective on fashion, it’s so refreshing compared to most of the trend-based fashion media. plus I’m fascinated by really strong personal style, I find it such an amazing expression of someone’s inner self/inner life.
my question for you: what are your thoughts on San Francisco vs. New York in terms of the street styles you see? has your move inspired your style in any new ways?
January 12 2007 at 10:15 pm
KarinGalHi Tricia, I found you after you left me a sweet comment on my stylehive site. Since then, I’ve been checking in regularly to see what marvelous thrifting scores and color combinations you’ve come with lately. You’ve certainly made me rethink my position on color, although I’m nowhere as brave as you are!
I’m a mom of two, so I love to vicariously enjoy your fun and artsy city lifestyle from my computer in Orange County. I’ve also got some Italian roots and parents from NYC, so I love when you talk about the difference between the two coasts.
LOVE the Marimekko pillows, by the way ~ you’ve got a great eye.
January 12 2007 at 11:32 pm
miahey! i’m a graphic designer working in san francisco. like you, i’m relatively new to the area (moved aug 05). as a designer i’ve got the natural desire to MAKE! i like sewing, knitting, painting, bookbinding, taking photos, and much more. i really admire your sense of style and the way you combine colors in interesting and bold ways!
keep up all the great work!

AlexandraI’m Alexandra from the Godforsaken Midwest. I knit and edit books. I read here for the lime green and orange.

samanthaMy response got eaten too! (I didn’t realise the addition question was serious!)
My name is Samantha aka stateof on LJ. I love making things with my hands whether it’s with knitting, sewing, or painting. Currently I’m working on my B.A. in Photography and then on to get my M.A., possibly in Art History, focusing on the history of Photography.
I’m not sure how I came across your journal, probably through looking at a friend’s “friend of” page. I’ve been knitting for roughly 2 years and I still consider myself a novice because some things look too complicated and scary to try, but when you post your projects it makes it all less intimidating.
Thanks for being an inspiration!
January 13 2007 at 1:25 am
AshleyHello! I’m (another) Ashley. I started reading your blog a while before you decided to switch from LJ. I loved your clothes and style, especially the bright colors.
I’m a graphic design student, and I’m hoping to minor in business, then head off to a fashion school of some sort after I’m done with the traditional four year university. I love sewing and knitting, both of which I’m working very hard to improve in.
Thank you for all the pretty pictures and bright colors.
January 13 2007 at 1:36 am
elissaHey, Elissa here. You were one of my livejournal buddies (I’m vitriolicviolin) and I followed you over here. I’m an editor by day but an artist/crafter for fun … so I love seeing your stuff and being inspired by your bright colors, gorgeous photos and fun wish lists. My question: You seem like you’d be an amazing painter with your eye for color and design. Do you paint?
January 13 2007 at 2:36 am
EmyHi. My name is Emy. I love making things. I very recently found your blog but i remember you from a LiveJournal SaucyDwellings post about your apartment. I fell in love with your use of color. I love color. But it appears that you may just love it more.
I also lurk on WR. I love that site. I know I really should try to get pics of my outfits everyday too, but most of the time I can’t even remember to get a pic of the stuff I make! Maybe I’ll figure out the timer on my camera. Thanks for all the inspiration!
January 13 2007 at 3:19 am
ChantalHi Tricia,
I’m in awe of you’re blog. I’m a fellow knitter but I actually found your blog via wardrobe remix. It’s a big inspiration for me, and so are you.
Thank you!
Chantal

BettyI’m Betty, and I’m a 20 year old student in London. I knit but would like to get into sewing/quilting. I started to follow your (then livejournal) blog when I found wardrobe remix last summer. I posted some pictures to w_r last summer (on flickr I’m lovepudding), but I really hate having my picture taken and found I was becoming very self critical of the way I look and not very happy with my ’style’ or lack of it. However, I think it’s a great community and I love to see the way you make alterations to vintage clothing.
January 13 2007 at 10:20 am
CaseyOkey-dokey. I’ve commented a lot before, so I suspect you have at least a vague idea of who I am.
I’ve been reading your blog for awhile; I think I found it during the summer and would drag my laptop into the family room to watch reruns of season two of Project Runway while I read the old posts on your LJ. hehe. Your journal has been amazingly inspirational to me in so many ways–its definately one of my top ten!
Anyway, I’m a graphics design major/frustrated fashion designer wannabe. lol. I’m hoping to eventually work in commercial graphic design/signage/packaging design (Paula Scher and other designers with clean, modern aesthetics are huge sources of inspiration to me). I also dabble in this and that craft/creative-wise: knitting, crochet, embroidery, paper crafts, sewing, applique; you name it, I’ve probably tried it!
I’m also a compulsive thrifter!! lol.
I do have a question for you: how did you get started thrifting and what drew you to it intially??
Keep up your amazing blogging–I really enjoy reading it and getting to “know” you a little better!
January 13 2007 at 10:58 am
JennI think I’ve commented before, but there’s always room for another. I’m Jenn – I’m a grad student who does game studies by day, but I prefer to exist the rest of the time more in the world of handmade stuff. I don’t have a lot of time, but when I do, I try to knit, sew, draw (just learning), make art of various types, cook, and just generally try to do things for myself. I’m also a huge fan of thrifting – between the grad students budget, my love of well made clothes, and my desire to express my somewhat vintage style, I can’t seem to keep myself away.
It’s for a lot of those interests that I really love your blog. Your style is awesome, your ability to make wonderful things is incredible, I love your use of colour, and I really love hearing what you’re doing and working on. I do have one question, though – how do you take such great pictures? I’m in part limited by a severe lack of light in my north-facing apartment, but any tips would be hugely appreciated – I’d love to get some more pictures up on my own suffering blog.
January 13 2007 at 12:14 pm
persephoneHi, my name is Persephone. I’ve de-lurked before, but I leave few comments. I love your blog, you’re so stylin’! I also love thrifting. ummm… A little about me: I’m 25, love thrifting, sewing plushies, my little zoo (2 dogs, 2 rats, ferret), experimenting with new types of crafts. I am married and we have 3 boys all together. Boys are so much fun, but kids are alot of work. I am trying to get my plushie business off the ground. This week, I’m setting up an Etsy shop. Nervousness and excitement to ensue…

susanaHi there!
My name is Susana and I live in SF in Ashbury Heights.
I found your blog through Wardrobe Remix, which is absolutely brilliant!
I am an obsessive knitter, haunt Imagiknit, and recently knitted the exact beret you posted this week. Mine is a delicious eggplant.
I also love to refashion vintage clothing and frequent the Alameda flea market.
It is uncanny, we have much in common.
I always relate to your posts and I also obsess over color combinations and the perfect outfit. How you dress is how you wear your art. How should I present myself to the world today? I work part time at Ambiance on Haight Street and also for Paul Frank as an independant rep for Small Paul. I have worked in almost every aspect of the fashion industry, design, sourcing, fabric development, buying and merchandising.
I moved to SF about 3 years ago from LA with my lovely boyfriend Max. We also live on top of a huge hill, and when I first moved here and didnt really know my way around, I pretended that I was Rupunzel. Welcome to San Francisco, I hope you have fallen in love with the city, it is truly magical!
January 13 2007 at 6:22 pm
MandyI’m Mandy, from Vancouver, BC. I’ve been reading you for a few months. I find your style very exciting and inspiring. I hope SF is treating you well.

MariaHi Tricia – My name is Maria and I live in the south of Portugal. First off I want to thank you for re-introducing me to colour!! I’ve been reading your blog for quite a few months and really enjoy it. I love to make and modify things, anything really, from clothes to toys to whatever, and I’m an extremely obsessed knitter. I’m really thankful for internet, its amazing to find so many like-minded people all over the world. I really do wish we could all travel instantaneously and just pop in to say hello (can you believe there are no thrift stores around here!!!).
January 13 2007 at 8:33 pm
sonia lunaHallo Tricia, my name is Sonia I have commented on your blog a few times before, I’m Italian and have been living in Dublin for the last 12/13 years [I lost count], I love it here, althought it has changed soooo much in the past 10 years or so!
I can’t remember how I discovered your Blog, suffice to say that it is one of my favourites, I adore your sense of style and your colour choices.
I’m trying to learn knitting at the moment, with horrifying results, but I won’t give up … my only regret is that I never sat with my mother when I was a child, she was [and still is] an amazing knitter but at the time I was more interested in climbing trees and stuff!
I have one question for you: what kind of camera are you using? I’m looking for a digital camera and have no idea which brand to pick … I love the quality and colours in your pictures!
January 13 2007 at 8:49 pm
CindyHi, I’m Cindy. I’m a Toronto high school student.
I found your blog a few months ago through links, from blogs of people on Craftster.
I knit and crochet, buthave also been frightened of DPNs – I might use them soon enough. Toronto weather will be demanding a hat!
I just adore your style, and how you’re so daring to wear all colours. I also love to thrift, even before I found your blog – I guess I just love to find a bargain! Many of my favourite pieces are thrifted.
You’re a continual inspiration for me.
Thanks so much
Cindy

KatyHi there. I’m Katy, and I don’t have a clue how I first found your blog, but it was around the time you invented wardrobe remix, and I’ve been lurking when I get a chance ever since. I’m a knitter and occasional sewer and needlepointer, and a fan of cuteness and bright colors (emerald green is my current obsession) and individual style in general.
I teach preschool and consider it part of my job to wear interesting clothes and jewelry to stimulate and engage kids – it’s amazing the conversations that start with a child asking me about something I’m wearing. The other day a 2 year old asked if she could kiss my earrings! (Of course I said yes.)
So yeah. Thanks for all the inspiration, and good luck with your future endeavors – you have a true talent.

ZenaI’m Zena, 14 actually, living in Missouri. When I found your blog(when it was only on LJ) I went back and read every single archived post, because I looooved everything. My town sucks and I adore fashion veeeery much but don’t really have any great clothes, for various reasons(most of which involving location and money and self esteem)… so I’m used to living vicariously through other peoples’ clothes~ I craft a ton and am trying to get back into an arty groove, I reaaaally want a sewing machine, and I’m mostly into crazy Japanese fashion, your style is actually subdued compared to other things I love, but I love it anyway. Has opened whooole new fashiony worlds for me. You’re very inspiring.
Also, I kind of apprentice at this place: http://www.celestialbody.com I am itching to change the packaging design of every single thing we have.
January 14 2007 at 6:22 am
sarahHey Tricia,
I’m Sarah, from Sydney, Australia. I’ve been lurking for quite some time now – I find you so inspiring.
I loved your LJ blog, wardrobe remix and your vintage finds. You certainly have an eye! You always look fantastic …. and I love the blonde hair!
I’m a health care worker by day and a shoe maker – in – training the rest of the time. I design and make shoes, so your colours and all your finds and your absolute passion for what you do really get me going.
So, we’ve finally met. Thank you for doing what you do, you’re truely amazing.
January 14 2007 at 9:16 am
Melanie TaylorTricia,
I read your blog all the time, I love it for ideas, style advice and thrifting stories. I currently live in Korea with my husband and also love all sorts of crafting and thrifting. Thank you for the entry about Eugenia Kim, I used to live in NYC right near her old studio and loved to walk past and admire her new designs. I have to pick up her book, thanks for the recommendation. Thanks for all the posts, it is truly a pleasure to read your blog. Good luck with everyting.
January 14 2007 at 10:40 am
JackieI first saw your blog through wardrobe remix. When I checked into your blog and saw that you loved patchwork and details and knitting, I added your feed!
I live in Philadelphia and am obsessed with making things, I oil paint, knit, bead, sew, needlework (cross stitch, needlepoint, embroidery) quilt, and my latest two projects are bead knitting a purse (on 0000 size needles!!!!) and I had remembered how much I liked Latch Hook as a child so I am making a rug for my foyer – it looks like a classic rug and is not a wolf or um tiger – ha!
I work at a local art school (University of the Arts) which I enjoy – it keeps me inspired! I also love to cook, love animals (2 dogs and 3 cats!!!) and have a very nice husband who also loves to make things (in this case films, music, photographs). We have a crazy olde turn of the century moonster house (7 bedrooms!) that needs a ton of work, but we are so busy working on our projects that it is going at a snail’s pace! We bought it in 2000 and still don’t have a proper kitchen (we have a makeshift one where I manage to cook each day, but…!!)
I also love to read, and am working my way through all the Dickens books presently, and started a book group to read James Joyce’s Ulysses (we meet in a bar and drink Guiness and do 2 chapters a month).
I’m 37 years olde, and still haven’t gotten over the 80s.
I still love all of my “oldeskool artfag” music with a passion, and haven’t really taken to most of the music beyond 1989. That being said, I am also obsessed with the 20s – 40s (I especially love vintage hairstyles and enjoy making them on myself) and some Victorian era techniques for needlework and knitting. I think things were made with more care back then! I like knits with small needles (I do not make anything with a needle size 1 or above myself) and love that things were made with care and beads and ribbon and time at home, and not all this thousands of dollar name brand piece of crap Emporers New Clothes stuff!!
OK – Enough! Nice ta meecha!
Jackie.

GiselleHi Tricia!
My name is Giselle, I’m 18 and I am brazilian. I live in the federal capital – BrasÃlia – and I study Architecture and Urbanism in College, it’s my second year now. I love art, design and fashion. As far as I can remember I’ve been drawing my entire life and now college is improving my skills.
In the future I want to graduate in Interior Design too because what I really like about Architecture is the lifestyle of different people. I don’t wanna build bridges or towers. I want to build and decorate houses, restaurants, stores – because it deals with people directly and deeply.
In 2004 I found my mom’s old sewing machine and I taught myself how to sew. Since then I’ve been even more addicted to fashion and D.I.Y. stuff. Last year I found your blog, don’t know how exactly. But I find it truly inspiring and I’m always checking to see if you have updated. And seeing all the thrif stuff you find makes me really jealous – we don’t have such things as thrift stores or charity shops around here… they are really hard to find and the stuff is usually crap. You inspire me so much that I now want to learn how to knit. But mom only knows how to crochet and I find knitting more beautiful. And we also don’t have good magazines or books about this kind of stuff in portuguese.
That’s it!
January 14 2007 at 11:22 pm
StylebitesRachel Michaela of Stylebites!
I love to stop by and peek at your pictures. As a fashion editor/stylist I find these really inspiring as I do your DIY projects which remind me of when I used to make time for those things!
I don’t have TV in my new flat but the DIY time seems to become “blogging” time. How do you ever prioritize to do both?
Keep up the good work!
January 14 2007 at 11:59 pm
alexisHey, Tricia.
It’s alexis aka blue_lotus. I’m glad that you didn’t decide to give up blogging when you left lj. I still enjoy reading your journal.
January 15 2007 at 10:45 am
jillhi, i’m jill aka olivia_gum on LJ. i started reading your blog after you posted pics of your apt in saucydwellings. i love your sense of color. i live above gramercy park in nyc and work as a performance manager at carnegie hall. i got engaged to my bf jack on christmas day. (yes, we really are jack + jill) i worked in the rock world for years and years and my life got sucked up by god-awful hours and sleepless nights. i lost alot of things, but mostly my sense of self. after a stressful search, i got the new job at carnegie (which i adore) in the fall and made a commitment to get back to being creative and things that inspire me. you inspire me.

AnnikaHi Tricia! I am from New York and now live in Los Angeles. I knit constantly — or as close as my eight-month-old allows, which isn’t actually anywhere close to constant anymore. I also crochet and sew a little. I am currently trying to reinvent my wardrobe because I am stuck with 40 extra pounds from my pregnancy and no clothes that look good. You’ve been a huge inspiration since I started reading (a while back, maybe two years) and I have gone from loving neutral, simple clothing with color for accents to loving all sorts of color and excitement. In my spare (ha ha) time I am a writer. I blog, I review books and movies, and I am trying to sell a screenplay.
January 15 2007 at 1:09 pm
AnushaHi Tricia,
Your thoughts, pictures and ideas are so inspiring. I’ve always been fascinated by colors, and am an avid thrift and vintage shopper too.
My name’s Anusha, and I’m mononoke72 on LJ. I found your blog on a random search, and I’m so glad I found it!
I’m from Sri Lanka, but have lived in the U.S. for a while … in Sacramento, actually! All the countries in the Indian subcontinent, including Sri Lanka, use a lot more bright or just plain varied colors in art, clothes, home decor, etc., than western countries do. I really miss a life of being surrounded by color.
By the way, some of the best thrift stores in northern California are right here in the Sacramento Valley! You really should check them out. I’ve amassed some beautiful clothes and an amazing collection of gorgeous vintage handbags (the most expensive costing $20, since it was genuine crocodile; the rest didn’t cost more than $5) from Sacramento thrift stores. Since very few people around here seem to know the value of them, I have a field day!
January 15 2007 at 2:45 pm
ChantalMy name is Chantal. I am 17 and a junior from Houston, TX. I have been reading your blog for at least a year. I love looking at the pictures you post and reading the things you write. You have often inspired me to start projects and I thank you for that.
You have such a personal sense of style and it’s amazing! I also love grey and orange.
Grey with any color, actually.

NinaHey Tricia
My name is Nina. I’m a 27 yr-old single mama living the vegan life in Portland, OR. I LOVE toast, the construction of clothing, pomegranate jelly, soul music, Betsey Johnson, sewing machines, fushia, veggie booty, fabric and hamming it up with my kiddos.
I*heart* you, your blog, your funky style and love for bright colors (I share the same love).
I have been reading your blog for about a year or so and started posting on Wardrobe Remix a few months back.
I will continue to admire both you and your blog…and who knows, I may even comment from time to time.
Lots of loveliness
Nina
