dress doctor

just a quick check in…since it feels like it’s been forever. and it has. but i have a litany of excuses:

a.) working, working, working.
b.) pete got the flu. i took care of him while he was sick.
c.) subsequently, i got the flu. this post is actually an ill-advised dispatch my from my fever-addled brain. i feel like “poop on a stick” (my fave silly expression to say when i feel like doo-doo).

anyway, before i got sick, i did some restyling on some thrift finds:

dressdoctor

i’ve been like a dress doctor lately, fixing up dresses i find at thrifts that need a little surgery to make them more wearable, more me.

one: got new buttons along the sleeves (which are open, it’s pretty neat), and was shortened quite a bit.

two: was shortened, and has a tie in the back to tighten the bust, made from fabric that was trimmed off from the bottom.

three: used to be strapless. shortened it, and used the trimmed off portion to form the straps.

four: hacked off the bottom, made a channel for elastic, so it has a bubble shape. more of a tunic length now.

back to bed. *cough*
more in a few days when i’m feeling more human.

I think I commented on these on your Flickr page, but let me say again how inspired I am by these refashions!! I just love how you took these to another, more stylish and wearable level. Bravo!!

    Hope you’re feeling better soon… :)

  4. Wow! I wish I was that talented. I’m not good for much more than watching 80’s movies when I’m sick. Good for you!

  5. la principessa: heh, actually, i did those before i got sick…i haven’t been much for anything but bad tv, crying, and sleeping the past three days.

  6. i love that you love red. for a while now, it seems that you’ve been using red almost constantly.

anyway, my favorite use of red is when it’s right next to purple or navy blue. so rich. i try to do it as much as possible. lately i wear a red pencil skirt purple sweater white tights to satisfy my itch.

i would love to see you do red and purple. please consider!

  7. Also, I only wish I looked so good!

  8. jennifer: i LOVE red and purple together, though purple is not a color i wear often at the moment and is not really that well represented in my closet in general. i tend to lean toward warmer colors, like yellow, orange, hot pink, and of course, red, and when do go for cooler shades it’s usually green (emerald or yellow-green/chartreuse), as opposed to purple or blue.

but i love all colors. one of these days i’ll probably get to an obsession on purple…but not as yet! i do agree it looks amazing with navy and with red.

  9. Have you considered changing the sleeves on #4? A cap sleeve will look a little more urban outfitters and a bit less dorothy zbornak.

  10. jennie:

not sure how MUCH urban outfitters i’d like to look like. perhaps i want to look like more of a golden girl!

  11. Love them all,but I can’t wait to see number 2 on!

  12. rose was always my fave!
