i’m spending the afternoon looking for hotels in antwerp, belgium and paris, france at the beginning of may (the husband and i are headed to the continent for two weeks, for work and play).

  1. You look lovely, as usual!!!
I love that filing cabinet behind you! Wish I had some space in my house for furniture I truly love and didn’t have to live with landlord crappy furniture! One of these days … one of these days!

  2. I love the new labels in the card catalog! Did you use color-coding somehow or just use the colors randomly?

  3. Will you be posting from Paris? I’d be very interested in seeing what fashions you will find in France.

  4. Gahh!

    That red blouse is DIVINE.

My jaw literally dropped when I saw it.

  5. emily: the colors on the labels on the card catalog are random…i just randomly chose colored cards as i was making the labels, and thus, there’s no rhyme or reason to the colors as they are on the drawers.

  6. gwyneth: i’ll have my computer with me, so perhaps i will do some blogging when in amsterdam, paris, and antwerp! i’m looking forward to observing the local style, if such a thing exists anymore! haha. also, i do plan to find some nice wardrobe additions while over there, so keep your eyes peeled… :P

  7. i second the comment about how amazing the blouse is! puffed sleeves are great - i love how they’re both very feminine and very structural.

not sure if you’re looking for recommendations, but i was in paris last week and found a great vintage shop on rue sainte croix de la bretonnerie, between the pompidou centre and the heart of the marais. (nice restaurant and the best ice cream shop on the same street too!) it may not be that exciting relative to the options you have, but i bought a great dress for eur20 and could easily have picked up a few more. i think it was called free’p’star, and it opened late so it was a good start to an evening in the marais.

there was also a riotously colourful bead, button and yarn shop off place des halles, and the proper vintage flea market at porte de cligancourt. i love paris, even for the tiling in the metro alone!

  8. i went to paris last june with my sweetie. instead of staying in a hotel we found a short-term apartment rental… it was much more affordable for us. plus, we had a kitchen and were able to save a few euros several mornings my brewing our first round of cafe in the privacy of our own place. we searched several sites. i think we ended up using http://apartrental.com/ ….

at any rate, if you google “short term rental paris” or something like that you’ll find plenty of links.

prior to leaving for vacation we found a couple of great how to speak french podcasts on iTunes. (maybe you already speak french!!)

finally, if you are at all interested in vegetarian restaurants in paris i can help you out with that as well. we tracked down several that i can recommend. (we also sought out several that no longer exist.)
