  2. amber: yes, i created “wardrobe_remix”, the DIY street fashion website on flickr, in 1995. which is why i talk about it all the time, and why i do the “wardrobe_remix(ers) o’ the week post. because it’s my creation. :)

the first page of the NEET article is about the group and why i created it, and the following pages feature the photographs that members have added to the group pool.

    make sense?

how did you come across the blog? i’m curious.

  3. i checked out that neet magazine. i like the idea of being committed to a grassroots fashion movement based on handmade and second-hand goods. however, i don’t like that everything is so obsessed with being ‘indie’– indie is a tag that carries a lot of connotations, and though they might mean ‘individual’ the word itself is a buzzword, much like ‘hip’ or ‘hipster’. also– and you’ll probably disagree– it seems that they’re really only presenting a single style aesthetic (with the exception of the wardrobe remix people, i think). though the items are individually diverse in look and style, the overall ensembles presented are fairly uniform in terms of fashion aesthetic. it’s almost as if they follow a fashion formula.

anyway, not saying i don’t like that particular street-style fashion; i just wish there were an even more diverse presentation in the magazine. this could be in part due to the editors, and in part also due to individual contributors and overall independent fashion trends and products available. my wish might be unfullfillable.

in short– i’m obviously never satisfied with fashion publications. however, i did see some pretty cool vendors that i’m about to check out as soon as i submit this comment. especially orangeyporangey. nice skirts.

i hope i’ll get to the point in my sewing skills that i’ll be able to produce my own garments. it’s hard to find items i’m satisfied with wearing– beyond basics, which is pretty much all i wear now, coupled with classic accessories– either in retail or in thrift and secondhand shops. every now and then i’ll find something i like, but those times are few and far between.

ugh, i wrote a novel. sorry, tricia!

  4. that article is really cool. i love that this has taken off so much.
you know, i’ve spent a lot of time thinking about being more stylish and fashionable. at one point i decided that i’d just continue wearing t-shirts and jeans all the time, but wear really fantastic costume jewelry with it. and sometimes i do, but most of the time i just forget to put any jewelry on and look for interesting pieces while i’m out shopping.
i was going to post my own problems with being stylish here, but i’m gonna take it back to my livejournal . . .
