[...] -vasiliisa of the suburban queen is truly, truly one of my absolute favorite fashion bloggers. i’ve fawned over her here before, and for very good reason: she’s forever pushing boundaries in her fashion writing, asking pointed questions about the subject, and as a result, she’s challenging our stereotypical beliefs and conventions regarding fashion, style, and beauty. she makes people think…and thinking is the most stylish thing one can do. in a recent missal, she asks: where are the images of the REALLY real people, the “overweight people…[or] people with (visible) disabilities or deformities[?]”…these people are rather underrepresented or not represented what-so-ever in fashion or on street fashion sites these days. and why?? beauty and style are not just exclusive to the tall + skinny + young + able-bodied.
Hi Tricia!

I have been following your journey since that steamy (it was the weather people - not us) dinner we had with Erin from Sodafine at Cafe Gitane before you left NYC. I hope all is going well. I enjoy checking in and admire your ability to champion individuality... and also share with us the ups and downs of life. I have wanted to tell you so many times - you are not alone!! I hope your decision to stay in SF works well for you... and I eagerly await images of your new pad - once you put the finishing touches on.

Seems like we were having blog ESP, as I posted this just the day before. I missed that NY Time's piece. I am glad Danielle (FinalFashion) picked it up. We had a nice lunch together when she was in town for fashion week, she will always indulge me in a conversation about the philosophical and psychological aspects of fashion that I find so interesting.

Also, Casey, thank you so much for your kind words above about my fiftyRX3 project. I guess you realize it is finished, but I continue to putter around in my laboratory a bit. I don't have the time for a big blog project, but hopefully will have some other interesting news coming up.

best wishes,

Jill Danyelle

ditto laura...as soon as i was near a sufficiently-large ikea to have a fabric department, i started sewing clothes with its fabrics. i do wish they had a wider variety of weights (mine seems to have only thin cotton or upholstery-weight), but especially with all the structure that's been going on lately, the heavier stuff has been working fine. it's also great for accessories, particularly bags.

Oh! Such a lot of new links to peruse... thank you, Tricia! :) I'm particularly interested in the fact that these have to do with the dichotomy of fashion+consumerism+sustainability/enviro responsibility. This is something that has been weighing on my mind for over a year now (since I ran across Danyelle's project @ FiftyRX3), and is something that I feel at a loss sometimes with. Where does the responsibility we have towards good stewardship of our resources (and other cultures as well) meet with the creative drive so many artists have in their use of resources?! Not to mention the responsibility towards feeding the consumeristic culture and engaging in it. *sigh* So many thoughts, so many aspects, so many viewpoints! Sometimes I feel like my head is going to burst! lol! :D

So thanks for the "thoughtful" links; just what I need on a lazy Sunday afternoon to keep me occupied. :)

Well thank you! I'm truly flattered. Plus, this made me realize that I probably haven't told you how much I love YOUR blog! 'Cause I do :)
