sorry so many non-photo or non-personal-ish posts lately…i miss making those! but…it’s been a crazy-busy couple of weeks, with working, being sick (feeling much better now, thank you!) and moving and unpacking.

things are finally coming together around our house, after a week of hard work! just need to organize and put things away, unpack a few boxes, and then drop off a couple boxes of donations off at goodwill, and sell off some stuff that simply isn’t going to work in the new place, probably on craigslist. still a lot to be done, but i’m pretty sure that by the end of *this* week, it will all be more settled.

my nikon is in the shop at the moment (*sniff*), and i haven’t had too much time to thrift, or be very creative at all. i like taking my own photos and peppering my blog with them, as you know. and i miss sewing, and i’m actually feeling a strong urge to draw and paint! i feel don’t feel very myself at the moment…it’s odd. soon, soon, though. very soon! (i hope.)

a few other things that i’m loving at the moment:

-the red beans and rice we made for dinner yesterday, from scratch (from my dad’s recipe). it was delish! nice and spicy.
-these supergraphic wall paintings by the ndebele women of south africa are absolutely stunning. (as is fly, the blog that posted about them!)
-the light in my new apartment…it’s big and it comes from the south. it calms me and makes me happy. i heart it!
-the collage work of vir.gen, whom i found on flickr. (one of their pieces is favorited above, in the grid.)

   I love looking at your flickr favs - very inspiring! Glad to hear the move work is going well and almost over. This week is crazy for me, but I’d love to get together soon - I definitely owe you a beer, coffee, or beverage of your choice for your pep talk on getting rid of things!

   I always love your Flickr favs; you find some of the coolest people on Flickr. I can (and have) spend hours looking through all those wonderful pages you link to… hehe.

   dad’s beans and rice recipe isn’t up on his blog, is it? i couldn’t find it, but desperately wanted to, since beans and rice is pretty much my lifeblood.

   here’s my recipe, which could not at all be called moros y cristianos by a long shot– but i love that recipe, too–

   1. cook 1/2 c rice (i do mine in the rice cooker)
   2. once it’s done, pour in about 1/4 c salsa verde, mix.
   3. mostly drain a can of red kidney beans (i like full circle beans, they are always good) and add those, mix.
   4. serve with a bit of shredded cheese or a dollop or sour cream or sour supreme (whichever you prefer).

   so good! also, tastes delicious with chorizo on the side. or in a burrito. or on a taco.
