I wish this myth would stop circulating. What makes wool felt (or full in this case) is hot soapy water and friction. granted, with a top loader you can stop the process and check on progress, but a knitted or crochet item doesn't shrink overly dramatically. Make a scrap square and throw it in the washer with your next laundry load and see what happens. Do it! You don’t NEED a top loader washer to felt. I wish this myth would stop circulating. Don't felt it, it beautiful as is. It adds a playful touch to your modern bedroom. I have always had a soft spot for granny square afgans/blankets, even when they were on the outs ("Rosanne" had one - they were not so stylish then!). I have one, twin size, that my aunt made for me (my sister got a matching one too) when I was little. It has traveled everywhere with me, through a cross country move, and always feels homey.
