sculptural wearable wool: hisano takei

i love these outsized organic wearable sculptural necklaces by american artist/jewelry maker hisano takei (via crust station). anything that pushes the limits of normality in such a thoughtful way with use of texture and dimension in the way that these sculptural pieces do is a winner in my book. i like the idea that they are so dominant in their look, due to their size…they would *be* an outfit, and the person wearing them would be secondary to them, art wearing the person rather than the person wearing art. a fun way of playing with proportion that’s not for the faint of (fashion) heart.

  1. hee hee, my first thought was: if anyone can wear these necklaces and not have their personality completely overwhelmed by them, it’s you.
I especially love the first one.

  2. yeah, the person would totally be secondary to that artform consuming the head. i can picture somebody leading the brave person around at a party and throwing hors’ doeuvres over the top. “would you care for a pig in a blanket? it matches your headpiece! open wide!”

  3. These are STUNNING. This is the stuff that gets me the most excited about fashion – pieces that play with texture and proportion to beautiful extremes. Thank you for showing them!

  4. I love the “pearls” and the “chain” especially. A clever person might be able to modify “Marley’s Ghost” from knitty.com into a reasonable facismile of the chain!

  5. I like the first one–it looks very cozy–and the second just makes me laugh. Hilarious. I probably fall in the category of faint of fashion heart, but I’m sure there’s someone on this crazy planet that could pull them off!

  6. ohmy, this certainly gets the juices flowing – wonderful!
