summer is my least favorite time of year, it’s too hot and steamy and sweaty (in NYC at least)…and all during this stickiest of seasons i daydream about the cooler days to come and all the sartorial possibilities inherent to thus. softspoken’s hats are the just the kind of thing, the perfect textural, colorful winter pieces, that i see in said (day)dreams. too too good.

whilst poking around on etsy looking for what’s what in duffel bags these days (i love duffels at the moment! a bit of an obsession…) i came across these bags (one of which is a duffel, natch!) by etsy-ian wooly bison, who hails from seattle. all the handmade bags and accessories wooly bison creates are pilfered from secondhand/used wool suit jackets. such a smart, sassy (re)use of (what are normally often) staid, serious materials, no?

the duffels are super cute (!!!), but i am also grooving pretty hard on the navaho applique on the gray bag pictured above, as i am into folk textiles of the world (duh!); additionally, i gather that navaho and all things native american are currently having a moment at the moment…so i thought i’d let you whose aesthetic leans toward such things know about this lovely piece as well.

also, extra info for ya: wooly bison has a blog & a flickr page, which you can (now) peruse at your leisure.

i have been stalking the etsy shop of louise hedley, aka, sohomode, for weeks, if not months now. why? because of those amazing, flattering high waisted skirts of hers, simple pieces which are made oh so deliciously different with her inspired choice of fabrics (fun old floral prints, popping plaids, fringe). those the wide ribbon-decorated belts she pairs with them are actually, factually the perfect touch. and her duffel bags are so so fun fun fun…the patchwork in a mix of leathers and wools is yes yes yummy.

on a related note, i love duffel bags (in general) so much! mark my words, they are poised for a comeback…

POUTfits is the star of this installment of etsy love. she hails from asheville, north carolina, and makes all manner of cool items with recycled jersey. the results are undeniably fun: slouchy patchy-pieced tops, armwarmers, skirts, and shrugs abound in the POUTfits shop.

i love the idea of armwarmers, though i don’t own any (yet!)! seems to me that they could or would be the perfect little odd colorful and texturally rich addition to an outfit, one that might not seem necessary, but that could have the potential for much usefulness. on that note, see that little pocket on the small armwarmer shown above? perfect for popping a couple bucks into whilst out on the town (in lieu of a purse, perhaps?)…smart thinking, there, POUTfits!
