some crafty candy colored neckwear made from vintage buttons, beads, and other bold plastic elements, by brooklyn-based designer sirin thada. sirin studied fashion design at NYC's FIT.
sirin also happens to be an friend of mine from my (ye olde) new york city days. she recently re-found me on facebook, and i in turn re-discovered her website (where i got a gander at these necklaces).
so superb to see that sirin's still as creative as ever...

a recent post on the craft: blog mentioned the LIFE photo archive @ google.com. it's a huge collection of historic photographs that were published in the famed magazine in years past. one can virtually dig through said archive using keywords.
i had a fun time plugging terms into the search field on the site, such as: sewing, fashion, dressmaking, crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, needlework, quilting...and i got a kick out of the images that turned up (the results of some of those searches are shown above).
interesting, inspirational, and fun to look at, eh?

threadbanger: quilt/fiber artist caroline hwang

on the latest episode of threadbanger, quilt/fiber artist caroline hwang demonstrates how to do english paper piecing (a quilting technique). more detailed instructions for the english paper piecing technique that caroline hwang demonstrates can be found here. caroline uses the technique in her illustrative art pieces, but the same technique could surely be used to embellish clothing, methinks...as always, use those noggins!
