biviel: sweet (shoe) simplicity

i'm loving these biviel sandals so so much right now. something about them screams "smart spring"...their earnest, pared down, almost classic simplicity suits my taste and general aesthetic direction so much more than anything over-adorned or aggressive (which, as i gather, is the look du jour?). the wooden heel literally adds a nice organic, down-to-earth touch. plus, the heel heights (especially on that first pair) are much kinder to my feet and suit my "walk-everywhere-because-i-have-to," "living-in-the-big-city", "momma-of-an-infant" life more than any scary skyscraper stiletto style could or would or perhaps even should, for sure. the fact that they (again, that first pair) sort of remind me of something my (now dearly departed) grandma jo would wear? even more sold, sister.

wardrobe_remix & flickr

thanks to google blog search, i found out via an article on the dartmouth.com (by author erin jaeger) that flickr co-founder, stewart butterfield, gave quite a bit of lip service to wardrobe_remix in a recent talk he gave about about the aforementioned photo-sharing site:

"The site also allows users to join online communities of people with similar interests, Butterfield said. Some of Flickr’s more popular groups include “wardrobe_remix,” a group comprised mostly of “women in their twenties,” he said, who post photos of outfits and discuss where they purchased each item of clothing, and “Pisa Pushers,” a page on which users post pictures of tourists posing as if they were holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

“People can find a community for more or less anything they are interested in,” he said. “There are 70,000 photos from almost 13,000 people in ‘wardrobe_remix’ alone."

wardrobe_remix is so huge that even the founder of flickr has noticed, and mentions it in talks. pretty flabbergasting influence for a little group on flickr i started nearly four (!!!) years ago! i am still so humbled by it's exponential growth, spread, influence, and popularity. and i am delighted by the numbers of the folks (over 13,000 members!) who have joined and i am especially proud with creativity and niceness of those who participate by throwing their photos (70,000+!!) into the pool. wow!

thanks, everyone, for making it what it is today! *bows to you*

hi hi. sorry it's been so long. things (time, mostly) got away from me. i knew moving cross country w/ a 7 month old baby was gonna be harder than heck, but it was so much harder than i had even anticipated. even with help from movers, mom, and friends, i've been pretty much completely overwhelmed these past few weeks. i've felt like i was underwater. or at least, buried underneath an ocean of boxes.
pete, poppy and i are *just now* settling in to our new place (in manhattan this go 'round, wow!). we've been living in our new digs 2 weeks today. the whole relocation thing was made that much more challenging by two major baby milestones: the addition of two more chompers in baby p.'s mouth (the top center ones), and some new found motor skills: crawling, and now, pulling up on everything in sight. she's on the move. *sigh*
we're finally getting the last little bits and bobs put away, getting together with friends (& making big dinners), and little p. and i have started to explore our neighborhood. we've made all sorts of cool discoveries and have noted many places nearby we'd like to visit again or check out, including: the wafels & dinges truck, angel street thrift shop (a rather expensive "thrift" store, but one that's actually very well curated), the union square greenmarket (drool, droollll!!)...and the list goes on.
dangerous for me and related to the above: seems i live with short distance of SEVERAL thrift stores. uh-oh, i'm in trouble, people...! :)

anyhow, now that i have sorta-kinda found my bearings again...
...i am going to *try* and resume a semi-regular schedule of posting from here on out. that means: whenever i can, just like before. :)
(hopefully someone's out there and still reading! :P )
