later today i plan to go by one of my new favorite yarn shops downtown (artfibers), stop by H&M to see about finding some patterned leggings, and do a little thrifting in the mission. i don't usually go out with any strict idea of what i'd like to find when thrifting (as not to be disappointed if i don't find it), but if the thrift gods and goddesses are listening, i'd really like:

-a small, cropped grey/black acid wash denim jacket similar to the tiny acid wash levi's jacket i already have and love to pieces -interesting, quirky gold necklaces -a fitted 80s jumpsuit in a bright color -a white a-line dress (like the one in my last post, though if i don't find one, i plan to make one once my sewing machines have arrived here in california and i have my little sewing studio set up again...i'm itching to find a place to live and get my little nest feathered, as it were). -some neat black designer flats (i've been having a lot of luck finding good quality italian made shoes when thrifting of late, let's hope this trend continues)...so i don't have to put out cash for brand new ones. :D

and some random yarn lust: this amazing 100% linen yarn by euroflax (by louet sales), sold by purl soho, a completely amazing, lustworthy manhattan yarn shop that any knitter or crocheter worth her needles or hooks should visit if she knows what's good for her (and bad for her credit card!). euroflax comes in a bunch of amazing bright *and* more subtile colors, and i'm itching to use it to make everything: dresses, stoles, scarves, loose tops, skirts. yes, a tiny gauge is probably required, but hello! totally gorge linen yarn! *drool* apparently it starts out stiff, but can be laundered and it then magically turns into slinky natural fiber goodness!

this girl's got a thing for grey (her way)

i've mentioned it before: i've got a thing for grey at the moment. and white, too. what works for me: mixing those shades of white, grey, beige, and black with my signature, saturated colors (orange, red-orange, reds, intense kelly and acid greens, and the like), and of course, denim (especially of my favored acid wash variety, for kicks). i'm also into the volume and layering that is happening of late, but i want to do this in my own way, that's true to me, and not slavishly following any one trend. i want to interpret it and mix those ideas with things i still and will always love: patchwork, some embellishment, quirky/funky pieces, folk art elements, and such.

this voluminous sweater would be particularly fabulous with an oversized kelly green or bright construction cone orange necklace: ***

a loose, rich brown bohemian smock dress that would look mighty fine with super bright orange tights and rich brown leather riding boots: ***

a simple white lace a-line frock, super sweet and fresh over broken-in straight leg jeans, with a tiny denim jacket over top (i of course imagine my favorite little levi's acid wash jacket), and paired with a pair of twee bright red pumps or flats: i also see this paired with a giant, oversized, handmade patchwork bag. this dress could be easily replicated, even by those new to sewing. so simple and easy to mix and match with just about anything. the lace is what makes it special. ***

a mod tweed shift with an amazing, balenciaga-in-the-60s feel (by one of my favorite designers, twinkle by wenlan)...terrific, completely fall-like, and classic *and* on trend, all at once. could be worn in so many amazing ways: over bright or textured leggings, with ankle boots or flats, over a broken-in tee, or a classic cashmere turtleneck, and so on...

all anthropologie.

california girl.

as of this afternoon, i'm a (san francisco) california resident, after a nearly six hour flight.
i'm not sure what to make of this yet. will report back later concerning this matter.

i already miss nyc and lots of people there (and shoot, everywhere else i've moved from, while i am at it).
had a big crying jag saturday evening about leaving NYC, as it started to rain, after drinking more than my fair share of belgian and german beers (with my love pete and friends nicole and aaron) and i also did some drunk bicycling around manhattan in high heeled boots. that was rather dangerous (i know) but fun.

on to matters of street fashion:
streets #3, nicole
my good friend nicole (the photographer of the photo above and friend mentioned above), looking sassy, just outside of my favorite belgian beer bar ("vol de nuit") in the west village, NYC. love how she paired the black and metallic gold paint-splattered-look jacket with the white tee with metallic gold cats. totally fresh and cute.

interesting deconstructed texture and rainbow of colors on this gal's skirt. quickly snapped in union square.

i'm not at all over the moon about the rest of the outfit...not sure i would wear that long of a skirt myself, or pair it with those particular pieces, but that's what personal style is about..."right" or "wrong"

anyway, love the texture and mixture of colors, and would love to maybe fool around with that and incorporate into some of my own designs in a more controlled, modern manner, in perhaps tighter color schemes or in certain areas (within a yoke, a pocket, and the like) or on a skirt or dress in a completely different shape. that sort of thing.
